Most peoples new years resolution relate with their bad habits. Get on diet program, stop eating junk food, quick smoking, drinking, blah blah blah.
It goes well for the first 2 months or so, then it goes back to normal. One of the biggest reasons is because it’s a freaking HABIT!
If you treat things as a habit, you tend not to take it serious, and when you don’t take things serious, nothing ever gets accomplished. You don’t meet your goal, hit your mark, or what ever.
And that’s a problem for a lot of people. Including myself. That’s why this year, I’m gonna do it different. Instead of a new years resolution, I’m going to set some goals for my self. Realistic ones.
Goals that are achievable, actionable, and attainable. Goals that will not only help me grow as a person, but as a business as well.
2011 was a great year for me. Especially with the new edition of the Income Press Blog. There was a lot of highs, and a lot of lows. I want this 2012 year to be bigger and better.
I will list my top ten goals I want to accomplish this year …goals I’m going to achieve. I share these with you to somewhat be held accountable for them. To make sure I get off my ass and do work on them ;-)
Also to somehow motivate you to set some of your own goals. Things you might want to accomplish for yourself. My goals may not be want you want or may not even relate to what you’re doing. But at least it’ll give you an idea of what or how to set your own goals.
I read a post from one of my favorite blogs I read, (Smart Passive Income by Pat Flynn). He wrote about his goals and how he’s going about it.
There was one thing Pat wrote that really hit home with me and it’s exactly what I want to do this year. And that’s S.M.A.R.T. Goals. Goals that are:
- S = Specific
- M = Measurable
- A = Attainable
- R = Relevant
- T = Timely
(Pat, if some how you land on this post, I hope you don’t mind me quoting you on this, lol )
I love that acronym. It sums up exactly what my vision for this year is. So with that said, lets begin jotting down my goals and visions for this year.
These are my top ten and for me, the most important goals in 2012.
10 – Work Less and Make More Money
In the last two months, I’ve been reading and studying The 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss. It’s really motivated me in such a way that it’s almost hard to explain the feeling.
But basically, in 2011 I worked my ass off to make my money. Some times to the point where I hardly saw my wife and kids. There were days that I simply didn’t have it in me to hang out with them. I just slept all day.
In December I usually take off from Marketing to reflect on the past year. What I did, what went right, what went wrong, etc. One thing that really stuck out was that I traded a lot of my time for money. Sort of like a 9 – 5 job.
I didn’t like that.
So for 2012, I want to focus on making more of a passive income. Income that’s more automated. Now of course I know I’ll have to work a bit to accomplish that. But after reading the 4 Hour Work Week, I know exactly what to do.
Goal Time Frame: By April 2012 I will be making a passive income of $20,000 per month
9 – Write and Publish a “REAL” Book
One of my life long goals has been to actually write and publish a real book. I’m not talking about one of those books you print on 48hrbooks.com. I’m talking about a real book that I wrote and gets published and sold in a book store like Barnes and Noble.
I’ve already started to write one mid 2011. This year I’m going to finish it.
Goal Time Frame: By December 2012 I will have published my first ever book.
8 – Start a New Podcast Show
In 2012 I will start a brand new podcast for the IP blog. My hopes are to have it as popular and successful as one of my favorite podcast I listen to called The Smart Passive Income Podcast.
Goal time Frame: By December 2012 I will have done at least 20 Podcast shows.
7 – Get 10,000 RSS Subscribers
I really never gave it much thought to the importance of an RSS subscriber until the last quarter of the 2011 year. Those subscribers are the most loyal and most responsive subs you can ever have.
I started with the JKDC blog which now only has just over 100. It’s slowed down since now my focus has turned to the IP blog. IP currently only has 20. yes I know, it’s pathetic. But all that’s about to change.
Goal Time Frame: By December 2012 I will have 10,000 RSS Subscribers.
6 – Get 10,000 Facebook Fans
Let me tell ya, Social media has come a long way and it’s so powerful. I really didn’t understand how powerful it was till I read Gary Vaynerchuck’s book, Crush It. This is a must read for all online marketers or any entrepreneur for that matter.
IP blog currently has 100 fans so I got some work to do there. If you’re not a fan yet, then what are you waiting for? Go like my page …like right now <==
Goal Time Frame: By December 2012 I will have 10,000 Facebook Fans.
5 – Get 1,000 Subscribers and 100,000 Video Views
If you don’t know by now, I’m big into video. I just love being in front of the camera. I’ve had a few successful Youtube channels. The first got banned by youtube. But that was back in my bizopp days.
That channel had over 1 mill views. So I know it can be done and I’ll do it again.
My old channel now has just under 500k view and over 500 subs. But since the birth of the IP blog, I’ve started a brand new channel. I’ll be posting all my videos there from now on.
Check out my new Income Press Youtube Channel <==
Goal Time Frame: By December 2012 I will have 1,000 Subs and 100,000 Videos Views
4 – Break 10,000 on Alexa Ranking
For many years I worked hard to break to top 100,000 most visited sites in the world, according to Alexa. The JKDC blog is currently sitting just under 55K. At one point it was ranking 44K in Alexa.
Since starting the IP blog it’s dropped a bit. But still maintaining a steady 50 – 55k ranking.
Now that I have more experience and know how to drive traffic, I will blow easily through the top 50K ranks with the IP blog. The challenge will be to get past the top 10K. But I’m up for a good challenge.
Goal Time Frame: By December 2012 the Income Press Blog will break the top 10,000 rank in Alexa
3 – Speak Live at an Internet Marketing Event
This was one of my top goals in 2011 that never even came close to happening. Part of the reason was do to all the time I spent on working my business. Just never got around to it.
I don’t wanna sell or pitch anything. I just want to give nothing but content. That’s it. Teach people some real shit with out them having to worry about being pitched and sold too.
Goal Time Frame: By December 2012 I will speak at a Live Internet Marketing Event
2 – Spend More Alone Time with My Kids
I’m only 35 years old. 36 on May 7th of 2012. My oldest daughter turned 17 on December 16th. I’ve never felt so old and so sad. I’m literally shedding tears as I’m writing this right now.
All I could think of was where the fuck did all that time go…
She’s about to graduate next year and then headed out to college. So basically I got one year to spend as much time as I can before she goes on to adulthood.
I know, I know, I can still see her. But it’s not the same. She’s my first born. She’s my baby. I’ve never been through this before. It’s a bunch of mixed emotions.
Goal Time Frame: Every Day to spend as much time as possible with all my kids
1 – More Alone Time with My Wife ;-)
2011 was my biggest year as an Internet Marketer and yet it seems that I hardly spend any alone time with my wife. We didn’t do as much traveling as we wanted.
In 2010 I made far less money, but some how we did so much more together.
In 2012 I want to spend more alone time with my wife. Just me and her. Go where ever we want when ever we want. I just want to be able to turn off my pc and just go and …well that’s none of your damn business ;-)
My wife is my life. She’s my world. Without here I would not be where I am at today.
Goal Time Frame: Spend Forever and a day with her
These are my goals and visions for 2012
Those are realistic, actionable, and attainable goals. Goals that even if I don’t reach, will somehow and someway help me grow as a person and as a business.
One thing that has always been important to me is my family. It’s why I do what I do. And this year I will make sure I do more of what I enjoy doing.
The only way I can do that is to create more of a passive stream of income. It’s the only way I can truly spend more time with my family and enjoy my passion.
Lets kill 2012 together and make it the best year ever ;-)
